Professors France Winddance Twine (Sociology), Jean Beaman (Sociology), John S.W. Park (Asian American Studies), Lisa Parks (Film and Media Studies), and Kim Yasuda (Art) have been awarded a Mellon Sawyer Seminar from the Mellon Foundation, to commence over the next two academic years. This award, for $225,000, will fund a year-long seminar series in 2021-2022, through which these principal investigators will convene leading scholars from around to the world to examine the intersections of global migration, racial identity, and precarity in France, South Korea, and California.  This is a major award for UC Santa Barbara, and this Sawyer Seminar promises to raise the profile of on-going academic work on race and migration on our campus.
